It is less than 6 months since I passed through Berlin on my way to Poznań, but here I am again. And I will be back in a couple of days, but just passing through again.
My main destination this time is Dresden. More on that later.
For my first night in Berlin I opted to stay in the same hotel as in August. The Schultz suited me well the last time, and this. I like the feel of it, and the location. The staff are excellent as well. That combination of friendliness and efficiency which can be so elusive in hospitality…
The East Side Gallery starts at the hotel front door, and the Spree is 50 metres away.
Those are two pieces of the location picture. Another is the Ostbahnhof station 100 metres away. It gives instant access to the rail network (including the SBahn lines) and the UBahn.
The main railway station is just 10 minutes away.
As for the hotel itself, it has a great wee Portuguese themed coffee shop and a relaxed library area beside reception. I would use it again anytime.
I had my first experience of the new Brandenburg Airport, and it was entirely positive. Passport control was quick and trouble free. My bag was delivered almost as I reached the carousel. My train to the city centre was quick, comfortable and cheap (€4.80).
All good.
