help, please…

This is a begging blog.

For several years now my Rotary club (Kirkcaldy) has been supporting projects in Tanzania, working in partnership with local clubs in the country. Information about them can be found on the club’s website

The club has become involved in support for albino children, who face many challenges. Those include risk of serious abuse from attacks to acquire body parts, which are seen to possess magical powers by local witch doctors.  Project work so far has focussed on providing protective UV spectacles, low vision aids, sun hats and sunscreen.

In order to target the abuse and to educate school children, we are planning to commission a children’s book that will challenge prejudice against albinos. It will be distributed free to all schools in Tanzania.

The author and the illustrator have donated their work. We have to fund the printing and freight delivery to Tanzania.

Our fundraising target is £20,000.

The club has organised a trip for members to visit the project in January 2012, and 6 those going on it – the crazy ones – will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. The hill (all 19,000 ft of it) is conveniently located in the same part of Tanzania as the project.  The climb will raise funds for the project.

I’m one of the crazy ones going on the climb. I’m asking you to make a contribution to the fundraising effort. Please help.

You can donate online at our Virgin Money Giving account http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charities/rotaryclubofkirkcaldycharitabletrust

All the participants are paying all their own expenses for the trip, so all money raised will go to the cause.
