I have just enjoyed a brief return to Gdańsk – “brief” as in 12 hours.
My flight from Edinburgh arrived just before 23.00 and my train left at 12.17 the next day. Good things often come in small packages of course, and after a few hours in bed followed by a long, lazy breakfast, I wandered around the neighbourhood of my hotel for a while.
I stayed at the Ibis Stare Miasto, on the opposite side of the city centre from where I was the last time I came to Gdańsk. I chose it for its location close to the main railway station, and I have always liked the Ibis brand. I chose well.
The surrounding area was pleasant to stroll through on a lovely autumn morning, and I went as far as the Gdańsk Shipyard.
The monument to those killed during the 1970 strikes is impressive.
