I returned to visit Poznań again during my October ’24 trip to Poland, just a matter of weeks after my first stay in the city.
It was supposed to be a brief overnight affair, just to enable me to be in the city to catch my flight home from there the next day. But events overtook me in the form of a nasty attack of gastro enteritis and I needed an extra two nights to recover sufficiently to be able to travel.
The good news?
I had another excellent PKP Intercity journey from Toruń. The train was packed on account of it being Sunday afternoon, but I had opted to go 1st class to take advantage of the 30% discount offered to us old folks. My seat (and the compartment it was in) were comfortable and pleasant.
My first experience of the airport in Poznań was entirely positive. Check in was quick. Security and passport control too. Boarding the aircraft was a bit… well, Ryanair passengers are their own breed, but we left on time.
I had opted for the tram and bus (159) to get out to the airport from the city, mainly because I had plenty of time. It worked well, although the bus was busy and I had to stand for the 20 minute journey. Knowing I would be sitting for most of the day, I was happy to accept such a minor inconvenience. I paid 10zł (£1.92 or €2.28) for a 24 hour ticket, valid for all the transport zones. Super cheap!
I stayed in the B&B Hotel again, and it too was positive. They were happy to extend my stay at the same price.
I did not see much of the city while resting and recovering, and an outing to have lunch at the Stare Browar food court is about as exciting as it got.
Dealing with gastro enteritis in a hotel room is even less fun than dealing with it at home. Had I been thinking straight on the first day I would probably have asked the hotel staff to get a doctor to check me over. Having been through a 7 year relationship with a doctor I knew what to do (rest, hydrate, lots of hand washing, stay away from others) and what to watch out for (blood).
It all turned out fine in the end.
